This week I was stuck on Route 611. Yes, it was very annoying!!! It seems Route 611 is or has been forever under construction. I decided to stop at Scotrun cemetery reminding myself that while sitting in traffic you can not run anyone over in your car. The cemetery seemed a better alternative than jail.!
I found the stone, which looked very new of Frederic Piechotka. What an unusual name, I thought not a local surname??? I am intrigued by the newness of the stone and that Frederic was a Civil war veteran.
Frederic born 8 February 1817 Prussia Germany, His parents Adam and Louisa Jaeckel Piechotka. The later census records find the surname spelled PEECHATKA. The 1880 census finds their surname spelled Bechatka. Frederic dies 11 July 1887. He is buried in Saint John Cemetery, Pocono Township, Scotrun, Pa. It leads me to question when did he immigrate to The USA to Tannersville, Pa. I couldn’t find any information on this. I took a look at his wife Louise Augustine Schimmel Piechotka (1830-1923) she married Frederic in abt 1860. She states that she came to the USA in 1860 on a census record. They or Frederic lived in New York, I can't figure out where but he enlisted 5 Aug 1861 in the 47th Reg. and was discharged 25 Feb. 1864. Frederic immigrated before Louise, did they know each other in Prussia? And is that why she came to the USA to marry Frederic? Frederic could have been married before .
